Evelyn Louise Hill Cole, 87, went to be with her Lord on February 1, 2018. She was born February 16, 1930 south of Arlington. She was the first of 6 children born to Ralph Wendell and Mary Luella Sharpe Hill.

As a child she lived for some time with her grandparents Blount and Essie (McDaniel) Sharpe of Arlington and was close with them and their daughter Dorothy Sharpe Norris. Paternal grandparents were Peter and Josephine Conley Hill who lived on a farm west of Arlington. Evelyn attended school at Arlington Elementary, Greensburg schools, Rushville Jr. High and Arlington High School graduating with the class of 1947.

Close friends Franklin Gordon and Rosemarie Orme introduced her to a young man from Raleigh, Richard Charles Cole and they were married June 15, 1947 at the Arlington Christian Church. Richard was a farmer in northern Rush County.

Evelyn sold Avon for many years and worked at the Rushville Wal-Mart from when it was first opened until when she retired in 2005 due to health concerns. She worked as Door Greeter at first and then in the Ladies Clothing Department. As youth, Evelyn was a member of Arlington Christian Church and later moved her membership to Center Christian Church where she was active in the Loyal Workers. She always enjoyed participating in Secret Pals.

In addition to supporting Richard in his farm work by running errands and taking food to the field, she also raised eight children: Richard Lynn of Knightstown, Deborah Elaine (Bill) Sutton of Plainfield, Kenneth Wayne of Middletown, Katrina Ellen (Steve) Cooper of Knightstown, Sue Ann (Brian) Oler of Escalon, CA, Timothy Eric (Cheryl) of Henderson, Robert Lee of Mays/Carthage area, and Mary Christine (Jim) Sprinkles of Melbourne, Florida. Each child learned the value of a good education and hard work from their parents. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 5 great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons along with many other relatives and friends.

Evelyn is survived by sisters: Peggy Hill Wickliff Johnson of Kokmo and Marjorie Hill McDaniel of Rushville and brother, Fred Hill of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Don A. Hill of Rochester, NY and Larry Hill of the Shelbyville area. Her husband died September 2, 1990.

Services will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10 AM in Moster Mortuary with Bill Worrell and Pastor Jeffery Brandon presiding. Friends are welcome to visit from 4 to 8PM Thursday, February 8 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery where she spent many hours with her grandfather Blount Sharpe who was caretaker of the cemetery for many years.
