Parks department seeks rarer trees for project

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department has put out a call for less-common Hoosier trees to add to the tree walk at Beckenholdt Park.

Naturalist Joe Whitfield seeks the following trees for planting in the park:

  • Big-toothed Aspen
  • American Beechnut
  • Cottonwood
  • Swamp Cottonwood
  • Rock, American or Slippery Elm
  • Dotted or Downy Hawthorn
  • Butternut, Mockernut, n Pignut or Red Hickory
  • Red Mulberry
  • Rock Chestnut Oak
  • Sassafras
  • Staghorn Sumac
  • Cockspur Thorn

Those who own any of those trees and would like to donate them to the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department may call 317-477-4340.
