Arthur E. Poucher, 97, passed away January 8, 2018, while at the Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, Indiana. He was born August 10, 1920, in Detroit, Michigan to Mamie and David Poucher.

His family moved from Lincoln Park, MI to Randolph County, IN. He lived most of his life in the Ridgeville-Winchester area, graduating from Ridgeville High School in 1939.

Arthur joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was assigned to the USS Rigel (a repair ship) and earned the Artificer Optical CO 1 st class designation.

He was a hard worker, a man of integrity who loved people. He worked in a variety of jobs after the war. His career was working for the U.S. Postal Service – first on the railway mail service, then as a letter carrier and finally on a rural route. After retirement, he worked at Zicht’s Greenhouse delivering flowers.

While he lived in Winchester, he was an active member of the Congregational Christian Church in Winchester, serving in many capacities. He belonged to the local Masonic Lodge and earned recognition of 75 years of membership. He enjoyed sports and was a member of the Winchester Golf Club. Faithfully attending WCHS sporting events, activities of his children and grandchildren, and traveling throughout the U.S. were highlights for Arthur during his life.

He married Eileen Jones in 1948, who preceded him in death in 2015, after 67 years of marriage. Family meant everything to Art, and he was dearly loved by them. Friends and family will miss his beautiful smile, and fun-loving spirit.

Survivors include his three children, Terry of Clayton, NC; Marsha Beal (David) of Greenfield; and David (Susanna) of Upland; three nephews and one niece; four grandchildren: Andrew Poucher (Danielle), Jesse Beal (Amanda), Isaac Beal (Kathryn), and Abigail Poucher; and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and by three brothers, David, Owen and Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 2 PM at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester with Junior Byrd officiating. The Randolph County Honor Guard will conduct military services, at the funeral home following the funeral service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, east of Farmland. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral, from 12 to 2 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hancock County Senior Services Transportation (HART), 1870 Fields Blvd., Greenfield, IN 46140. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
