Betty Margaret Richards Dunkin died January 8, 2018 after an extended illness. She resided at The Hearth at Windermere in Fishers, IN for the past 6 years. Prior to that, she lived in Anderson, IN.

Born December 16, 1922 to Earl and Merle Richards in Huntington, Indiana, she graduated from Huntington High School in the class of 1940. During her youth, Betty sang all over the Midwest with a local Women’s Choir. She married Richard W. Dunkin in Tallahassee, Florida on March 15, 1943. After World War II, Betty and Richard moved to Bluffton, IN and then to Anderson in 1951.

Betty supported her husband through his service in WWII and his construction business, W.R. Dunkin & Son, INC. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Anderson, the YWCA, and Anderson Country Club. Betty was a former Scout and “Y-Teen” leader. Her hobbies included exercising, playing the piano, babysitting her grandchildren and gardening. Betty loved to play games, enjoyed being in the sun, was an accomplished dancer, and a caring friend to all she met.

Survivors include a son, Craig R. Dunkin (Marsha) of Anderson; daughter, Candy Short (Steve) of Anderson, three grandchildren, Melanie Dunkin and Colin (Julie) Short, both of Anderson, and Caren Short of Montgomery, AL; two great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine Sebastian Short and Matthew Wesley Sebastian Short of Anderson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Byron C. Richards, sister, Clara Jane Lowery and grandson, Matthew Craig Dunkin.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 from 12:30-2:30pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, IN. Services will be held at 2:30pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park.
