HANCOCK COUNTY – As the song goes, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” If driving into the big city to watch a ball drop takes you too far from your home base, there are a number of events to celebrate the arrival of 2018 here in Hancock County.

Foxgardin

FORTVILLE — Revelers can enjoy the distinct musical sounds of Mank & Sass at Foxgardin, 215 S. Main St. The band begins at 8 p.m. and will play until 1 a.m.

Co-owner Toby Shelton hopes for a busy evening with Mank & Sass in the house. As soon as word got out that the duo would be performing on New Year’s Eve, reservations came flooding in, Shelton said.

“They’re a good fit,” he added. “They’ve played here once or twice a month since we opened. They’re who everybody wants to see.”

The lounge and the backroom will be set for dinner service through midnight, Shelton said, and he expects it to be busy. We don’t plan on anybody leaving once they’re here, he added.

Greenwood VFW

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Veterans of Foreign Wars post 2693 hosts a party to celebrate New Year’s Eve and a newly-renovated Canteen Lounge. The party begins at 529 Apple St. at 8 p.m. and runs until 1 a.m. No cover will be charged, but attendees are asked to bring finger foods for a snack pitch-in. The evening includes music from DJ Rockin’ Rich, party favors, games and champagne at midnight.

Trustee Butch Miller calls the renovations “out with the old and in with the new” – new furniture, a new floor and new walls for more open space, he said.
