Dragons’ Dennemann named All-American

New Palestine senior Allison Dennemann was named second-team All-American by MaxPreps. Dennemann was chosen to the Medium School All-American volleyball team as announced Thursday.

Dennemann ended her career at New Palestine as the program’s all-time kills leader with 2,184. The University of the Pacific signee also had 1,341 digs.

In 2016, Dennemann was named third-team All-American.

Holiday hoops tourneys approaching

The holiday season brings with it plenty of basketball tournament action and six local programs are set to compete this week.

Locally, the Greenfield-Central girls basketball team hosts its own tournament, spanning two days. The round robin event welcomes four teams and consists of six games, beginning with two Wednesday.

Greenfield-Central Classic

Winchester plays Indianapolis Herron on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by Greenfield-Central vs. Hauser at 7:30 p.m.

Herron and Greenfield-Central play Thursday at noon, followed by Hauser and Winchester at 1:30 p.m. Herron and Hauser play at 6 p.m., and Winchester and Greenfield-Central highlight the finale at 7:30 p.m. 

Twin Lakes Tournament

The Mt. Vernon girls compete at the Twin Lakes Tournament, beginning  Wednesday against Carroll (Flora) at 4:30 p.m. Games continue into Thursday with placement contests for first through eighth.

The consolations start at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Staggs Gym, while the semifinals tip at 11 a.m. at Twin Lakes. Placement games begin at 4:30 p.m. inside Staggs Gym for seventh and fifth place. The third-place and championship games are also back-to-back, starting at 6 p.m. at Twin Lakes.

Noblesville Tournament

The New Palestine girls head to Noblesville for tournament play on Friday. The Dragons open the four-team tournament against host Noblesville at 10 a.m.

Greensburg and Southport play in the other semifinal at noon. The losers compete in the consolation championship at 6 p.m. The first-place game is set for 8 p.m.

Lebanon Tournament

The Greenfield-Central boys will play in the eight-team Lebanon Tournament, beginning against Gary 21st Century at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Consolation and semifinal games start at 10 a.m. on Friday. Win or lose, the Cougars will play at 11:30 a.m. on Day 2. The first placement game (seventh) tips at 4 p.m. with the championship set for 7:30 p.m.

Tri-West Tournament

The New Palestine boys head to Tri-West on Friday. The Dragons open against Beech Grove at noon. Decatur Central and Tri-West play at 10 a.m.

The losers meet at 2 p.m. with the winners vying for the championship at 4 p.m.

Martinsville Tournament

The Mt. Vernon boys travel to the Martinsville Tournament on Saturday. The Marauders face host Martinsville at 10:30 a.m., followed by Lafayette Jeff vs. Castle at 12:30 p.m.

The losers play at 6 p.m. The winners advance to the title game at 7:30 p.m.
