Church to conduct candlelight service

SHIRLEY — A Christmas candlelight service is set for 6 p.m. Sunday at Shirley Friends Church, 101 S. Main St.

Community Christmas Eve service slated

NEW PALESTINE — The annual community Christmas Eve service will be at 11 p.m. Dec. 24 at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 S. County Road 500W (Gem Road).

Area pastors will participate in the candlelight service. Everyone in the community is welcome, regardless of their faith or whether they attend a church.

St. John church invites residents to dinner

CUMBERLAND — St. John United Church of Christ will serve its next community Third Thursday Dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 11910 E. Prospect St. Everyone is welcome.

Guitar duo coming to Friends church

KNIGHTSTOWN — Christian guitar duo Better Days will present special music and lead singalongs during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at Knightstown Friends Church, 214 E. Brown St.

The group performed at the Renewal concert on the town square during Fall Fest. Everyone is welcome.

Cookie walk, bazaar marks 25 years

Daycare children present play at church

GREENFIELD — “Isaiah Jones and the Seekers of the Lost Christmas Treasure” is set for 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1450 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Nearly 60 children who attend the church and/or its Noah’s Ark Daycare After-School Ministry will present this Christmas musical by Christy Semsen.

Orchestra, choirs featured in concert

GREENFIELD — The Musicians’ Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in the sanctuary of Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St. The program will feature the Greenfield Community Orchestra and the church’s musicians and choirs. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The public is invited.

Gifts to Love INC will be matched

GREENFIELD — Gifts to Love in the Name of Christ of Greater Hancock County will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000 between now and Dec. 31.

Longtime local resident Robert Wortman is offering the match in honor of his mother, 107-year-old Velma Davis Wortman. She graduated in 1927 from Westland High School in Blue River Township. After college and graduate school, in 1945 she became the first licensed librarian at Morristown High School, where she retired as an English teacher and librarian in 1977.

Over the last year, Love INC’s clearinghouse has received more than 822 calls from residents, resulting in 1,002 people’s needs being met. Donations will help Love INC continue to address the needs of fellow county residents needing help.
