Lois Mae (Sipe) Pearson, 100, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Hancock Regional Hospital.

Lois lived all her life in Hancock County. She was born on August 26, 1917, in the rural area east of Greenfield, as the daughter of Paul Clarence and Jennie Monell (Apple) Sipe. After high school, Lois attended Butler University where she received a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She married Willie Elmer Pearson on June 20, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky, and they were fortunate to spend 63 years of marriage together.

Lois pursued her childhood dream to become a grade school teacher. She was a teacher for the IPS school system for 31 years before retiring from Benjamin Harrison School in 1984. Her other passions included traveling and art. She loved art of all kinds and enjoyed learning about the artists themselves. Lois was a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She is survived by her children, Charlotte L. (Dean) Huntzinger, William Richard (Cinda) Pearson and Stephen Douglas Pearson; 7 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jennie Sipe and husband, W.E. Pearson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. also at the mortuary. Pastor Fred Powers and Rick Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow at Simmons Cemetery in Wilkinson.
