Mary E. Sanders, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29.. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Eugene (Gene) Sanders.

She was born Mary Elizabeth Moore in Greenfield, Indiana to James Oliver and Jessie Mae (Fields) Moore. She attended Charlottesville High School. After graduation Mary moved to Indianapolis and worked at the IRS through the end of WWII. While married to her first husband, Joseph E. Fidger, and raising a family she attended Speedway Christian Church and was an active member of Psi Iota Xi women’s service organization. She later reentered the workforce for a long and successful career including Vice President of Sales with Indianapolis Office Supply until retirement in 1987.

Mary and her second husband, Gene, then lived for many years in their home on the first fairway of Sebring Country Club in Sebring, Florida where both were avid golfers and developed many lifelong friends. A unique accomplishment of hers included two hole-in-ones at the Sebring CC regulation golf course.

Most recently she resided at the Harrison at Eagle Valley where she was surrounded by many friends from Speedway.

Mary is survived by her sister, Martha Mae Cooper, of Greenfield, IN and many loving nieces, sister in law, cousins and other family members in Greenfield. Also surviving are daughter Jolynne Fidger Wilhoit (Dave) of Carmel, IN, son William Ted Fidger (Reggie Vegliante) of Denver, stepson Steve Sanders (Brenda) of Indianapolis and step daughter Gayle Street (Craig) of Baltimore, MD. Mary’s beloved grandsons are Nick and West Wilhoit.

We will miss her very much and all who knew her cherish our memories and times together with Mary.

A Memorial Service will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 16 at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Dr, Indianapolis with visitation 10:00 AM until the time of service with a graveside following at Washington Park North Cemetery.
