Paul Rittenhouse, 95, of Greenfield, Indiana passed away Monday December 4, 2017 at his home in Westminster Village North Community.

Paul was born November 16, 1922 in Jay County to the late Ray and Imogene (Merrill)Rittenhouse. Paul was a 1940 graduate of Bryant High School. After graduation he moved to Ft. Wayne where he worked for General Electric before being drafted into the United States Army during WWII. He was trained as an explosive technician. Paul spent time during his tour of duty liberating French, and Czechoslovakian cities, as well as, a concentration camp in Germany. He was a member of the 97th division, which was one of only two Army divisions to serve in both the European and South Pacific fields of war.

Paul returned in 1945 to marry the love of his life, Mary Maxine Huntzinger in 1946. Upon his return, Paul began working for the United States Post Office until he retired after over 30 years of service. Paul showed his love for Maxine as he cared for her during her lengthy illness.

Paul was a quiet, humble, hardworking man. He lived by the motto “it’s better to fix than replace”. In his spare time, Paul would deliver for Meals on Wheels, volunteer free tax services at the library, playing his saxophone, singing in the choir, tinkering with his HAM radio and playing with his grandkids.

Paul is survived by his two children; Donna Jean Veller & Roger Rittenhouse; sister, Nancy Hurt; 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Paul is proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, and five sisters, Martha Roll, Mary Grandlinard, Ruth Strausburg, Helen Rittenhouse and Velma Burk.

A Celebration of Paul’s life is scheduled for Friday December 8, 2017 at 12:00pm at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, In with Eric Norton presiding. Visitation will be Friday December 8, 2017 from 11am until time of service.
