Support widespread after loss of firefighter

Editor’s note: Scott Compton, a longtime firefighter, died Nov. 11, a day after battling a blaze that destroyed several businesses east of downtown Greenfield.

To the editor:

On behalf of the Greenfield Fire Territory, we would like to send a heartfelt thank you.

Thank you to all of our brother and sister firefighters who sent condolences, lent an ear, covered our stations and showed love to us and firefighter Scott Compton’s family.

Thank you to all Hancock County law enforcement who immediately came to our assistance and showered us with support.

Thank you to the Hancock County 911 Center for all of the communications work throughout the week.

Thank you to Statflight 5 for the flyover. It was truly appreciated.

Thank you to Keihin IPT and Hancock County FOP 140 for the meals for our firefighters.

Thank you to the various departments from the city of Greenfield who helped with various tasks.

Thank you to the Patriot Riders, Fire and Iron Motorcycle Club and to all of the volunteers who helped with funeral parking.

Thank you to the citizens of Hancock County who showed us how much our community cares.

Thank you to Supporting Heroes. Without your help and guidance, the special tribute to Brother Compton would not be possible.

Thank you to the media for getting the word out about firefighter Compton’s services.

To firefighter Scott Compton’s family, thank you for sharing him with us for 17 years. We are all blessed to call Scott family.
