GREENFIELD — More than 50 girls from Harris Elementary and Greenfield Intermediate School braved the chill in mid-November to participate in the Girls on the Run 5K.

The girls — third- through fifth-graders — were part of a 10-week program culminating in the 5K run. Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program that teaches girls life lessons about friendship, confidence, healthy decision making and helping their communities. The program incorporates running and movement into every lesson.

Thanks to a donation from Hancock Regional Hospital, the program was offered to participants at a highly reduced cost.
