Local soccer players recognized by ISCA

The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association announced its 2017 Top Team Players this offseason, including several local standouts.

The 2017 ISCA Girls Top Team Players list included Mt. Vernon senior Nicole Ratts and New Palestine senior Hannah Taggart.

The 2017 ISCA Boys Top Team Players list included Greenfield-Central senior Braiden Sticka and Mt. Vernon senior Ben Wallace.

ISCA Academic All-State team released

Greenfield-Central’s Sean Julian, Clay Kelley, Adam Lee, Cole Pierce, and Vieth Jackson were named to the ISCA Academic All-State team. Mt. Vernon’s Timmy Clone, Max Turner and York Jenner also were named to the team.

On the girls side, Alexi Hardie, Sara Kious, Cleo Mills, Regan Montgomery, Alaina Nelson, Nicole Ratts, Ellie Roach, and Jaici Wright each were named Academic All-State. 

New Palestine’s Avery Biggs, Chloe Couch, Victoria Crowder, Megan Jolly, Olivia Lambdin, Olivia McKilligin, Grace Miller, Corrin Neese, Maya Stirm, Hannah Taggart, and Grace Voelz were named Academic All-State.

Former Marauders standouts to be honored

All former Mt. Vernon Marauders girls basketball players, who have scored 1,000 points in their careers or more, will be honored during a special ceremony this week.

The milestone Marauders will be recognized at Friday night’s girls basketball game against Rushville between the junior varsity and varsity games at approximately 7:15 p.m. The community is invited to join in the celebration of these remarkable players’ athletics accomplishments.

The honorees are: Liz Skinner, Barb Skinner, Jenny (Davis) Moore, April (Kirby) Lemmon, Johna Goff, Alissa (Kirby) Hankee, Cassie (Bills) Brumfield, Jessica Privett, Jessica Brown, and Sydney Shelton.

Royals Volleyball Club evaluations approaching

The Lady Royals Volleyball Club is conducting evaluations Sunday and Dec. 3 inside the Eastern Hancock High School gymnasium.

The club is open to all area volleyball players who love volleyball, want to extend their play and are interested in working hard and improving their skills.

There will be two evaluation sessions per day to measure player skills and assist in team placements.

The first evaluation session will be conducted from 1 to 3 p.m. for those players competing on the 10-, 12- and 14-under teams. The evaluation for those interested in joining the 15-, 16- and 17-under teams will be held from 3 to 5 p.m.

Players will be placed based on age, skill level, experience, position as well as IHSAA limitations (no more than three players from the same high school on the same team).
