Charles Caudill, 86, of Fountaintown, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on August 13, 1931 in Flemingsburg, KY as the son of Gilbert and Mamie (Hurst) Caudill. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Charles married Connie (Klumpp) on August 19, 1959 in Richmond, IN.

He worked for International Union of Operating Engineers Local #103 as a lull operator for over 29 years before retiring in 1992. Charles was a member of Local #103 and Fairview United Methodist Church. He would volunteer with meals in the church kitchen and was known as the “Soup Man” among his neighbors. Charles liked fishing, gardening, making rocking chairs and spending time with his family, granddaughters and dogs.

Charles is survived by his wife, Connie Caudill of Fountaintown; two sons, Tony Caudill of Fountaintown and Tim Caudill of Greenfield; daughter, Kim Caudill of Fountaintown; three sisters, Zenith Brady, Beverly Yonts, and Nancy Caudill; sister-in-law, Joyce Caudill; and two granddaughters, Katie Caudill and Laura Caudill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert & Mamie Caudill; four brothers, Edward Caudill, Lovell Caudill, Gilbert Caudill, and Cliff Caudill; and two sisters, Lee Whittaker and Carolyn Tucker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church, 1880 W. 900 N. Fountaintown, IN 46130. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
