NEW PALESTINE

Jeanette Kay Stein, 86, of New Palestine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 4, 2017. Born on October 30, 1931, in Indianapolis, she was the fourth child of Ernest and Lucile (Griffith) Hartman.

Jeanette graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1949 and met Ed Stein on a blind date soon after. They were married on April 7, 1951. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, fishing, and sharing their wooded paradise, best known as “the pond,” with friends and family.

Jeanette co-owned several liquor stores with her husband Ed, but she always put family first. She leaves behind a legacy of appreciating all that she had; putting others needs first and never showing up empty handed. Jeanette was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving her are her son, Kurt (Karen) Stein of New Palestine; grandchildren, Michelle (Rob) Boogar, Colleen Stein, Nicole (Joel) Engelberth, Ashley Stein, Chris (Mersades) Stein, and Casey Lyon; son-in-law, Bruce Lyon; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Madelynn, Skylar, and Brooklyn Boogar; and sisters, Marcia Gatlin and Carolyn (Gary) Bookout. Preceding her in death were her husband, Edwin A. Stein; daughter, Karen K. Lyon; her parents; sister, Virginia Hartman; and brother, Richard Hartman.

Jeanette’s wishes were to have no services. Cremation will take place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Seasons Hospice Foundation, 6400 Shafer Ct #700, Rosemont, IL 60018, or online at http://seasonsfoundation.org/. Friends may share a memory or a condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
