Mt. Vernon gets ‘Modern’ on stage

FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon High School presents “Thoroughly Modern Millie!” at 7 p.m. Nov. 16, 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. County Road 200W. The musical, set in the flapper era of the 1920s, tells the story of small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who arrives in New York City determined to marry for money instead of love, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel where something shady is in the works. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and can be purchased online at mvhs.booktix.com or at the box office on hour before the show.

Theater gives 1,001 reasons to laugh

GREENFIELD — KidsPlay Inc. children’s theater will present “Sahara Nights” Nov. 17, 18 and 19 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St. Legendary Arabian storyteller Scheherazade adds modern twists to the classic 1,001 Arabian Nights stories in this family-friendly spoof. Sahara, as she is known to her friends, spins tales for the Sultan in order to free her friend Aladdin — arrested because of overdue library books — from prison. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $5 at Hometown Comics, 1506 N.
