The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 14

Dave’s Meat Market

Location: 333 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – water dripping in deli case, corrected; NC/R – clean floors under equipment, along edges and baseboard, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC/R – faucet at three-compartment sink is leaking, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC/R – ceiling in meat cutting room is peeling, walk-in cooler door needs to be refinished, to be corrected by Oct. 1; C/R – all touch points such as handles on deli/meat front case, pens, etc., that will be touched between food contact need to be cleaned every four hours like a food contact surface, corrected; C/R – employee seen touching raw hamburger then touching deli case handle and getting container of chicken salad, corrected.

Aug. 21

Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen

Location: 1981 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Jim Dandy

Location: 80 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – employee drink must be covered and stored away from food and contact surfaces, corrected; C – must use tongs/fork to handle lemons for drinks, corrected; C – excessive gnats in the kitchen area, clean/remove food debris, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC –need soap in employee restroom, to be corrected by Aug. 21; NC – need paper towels in employee restroom, to be corrected by Aug. 21; NC/R – clean ceiling in kitchen area, especially in dish room area, clean doors, handles and interior/gaskets of all refrigeration units, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 22

Lincoln Square Pancake House

Location: 901 E. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – dish machine not sanitizing, corrected; NC/R – need to clean container holding ice scoops to maintain clean and protected location, corrected.

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – frozen foods not frozen, deliveries must be put away promptly, corrected; C – must date-mark correctly in-house made products such as sandwich spread. Must be marked with expiration of oldest product, corrected; C/R – expired lunch meat and grilled chicken, corrected; NC/R – ice scoop must be stored in a clean protected manner, corrected; NC/R – repair gap at dock door to prevent pests entry, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 24

Zapp Thai Restaurant

Location: 2045 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – need certified food handler, cannot be food handler for multiple stores and food handler must be full-time employee, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C – hand sink must not have any equipment blocking ability to use sink, corrected; NC – hood needs to be cleaned to remove grease build-up and debris, ice machine interior needs to be cleaned to remove mold-like substance, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Don Rigo Mexican Grill

Location: 1336 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – employee observed touching ready-to-eat food with bare hands, corrected; C – employees need to change gloves/wash hands after touching contaminated surfaces such as boxes, walk-in cooler handle, handle of tongs in raw meat, etc., corrected; NC no paper towels at hand sink by three-compartment sink, corrected; NC – handle of tongs in food in drawers under grill, corrected.
