SHIRLEY — Al Serhal, executive director of Hippo Valley Christian Mission, will speak Sunday at Shirley Christian Church, 202 Meridian St., Shirley.

He will speak during Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m.

Hippo Valley Christian Mission was founded in 1956 by John and Marge Pemberton in Zimbabwe, Africa (then Southern Rhodesia). Today it has 27 mission schools with more than 18,000 children attending them. There is an orphan ministry with more than 50 children in its care, a hospital and three health clinics. The mission has planted more than 100 churches and is involved in training pastors.

Serhal has been making trips to Zimbabwe for 20 years, leading teams and conducting the annual preaching conference. He also teaches preaching at Zimbabwe Christian College, serving as Professor of advanced homiletics every February.

Before working for the mission, Serhal was a pastor in Georgia and campus minister at Kentucky Christian University. From 1991 to 2007 he was senior minister of Fairfield Christian Church. He also is co-founder of the National Preaching Summit that meets in Indianapolis annually.
