Churches to host family-friendly Halloween events

HANCOCK COUNTY — Across Hancock County are family friendly ways to celebrate October, and a number of local churches are serving as hosts. Here’s a look at what you and your little trick-or-treaters can do for some spooky and not-so-spooky fun.

Oct. 21

Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church and the Movie Theater Church are co-sponsoring a Fall Family Festival and hayride from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Mt. Comfort church, 3179 N. County Road 600W. Information: mcmethodist.com, indymtc.com

Oct. 27

Trunk or Treat runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 2265 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. Royal Neighbors Chapter 1397 is partnering with the church on the event. Information: philadelphia-umc.org.

The Harvest Hoedown takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Brookville Road Community Church, 7480 U.S. 52 West, New Palestine. It features carnival games, carnival food, inflatables and costumes. Information: brcconline.net, 317-861-3880.

Oct. 28

Trunk or Treat runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church and School, 6513 W. County Road 300S, New Palestine. Children can trick-or-treat out of decorated vehicle trunks in the parking lot. Hayrides also will be available. The menu features chili, hot dogs, carrots, caramel apple slices, chips, cider and lemonade for a donation. Costumes are welcome but not required. Trunk or Treat starts at 4 p.m. at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 52 N. County Road 500E, Greenfield. The event also includes food, games and crafts. Information: newhopenaz.net, 317-462-4960.

Trunk or Treat runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at New Palestine Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 4053 S. County Road 650W. Information: newpalchristianchurch.org, 317-861-4356.

A bonfire and meal start at 6:30 p.m. at Westland Friends Church, 6980 E. CR 300S, Greenfield. Trunk or Treat follows at 7:30. Information: westlandfriends church.org.

Oct. 29

A fall party with crafts, movies snacks and candy will take place during children’s services at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 S. County Road 500W. Lunch and Trunk or Treat will follow the service. There will be a contest and prize for the best-decorated vehicle trunk. Information: 317-861-4390 or www.npumc.com.

Brown’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 994 N. County Road 600E, will have Trunk or Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Hot dogs and hayrides also are offered. Information: 317-462-4910 or brownschapel.com.

A Musicfest celebrating the Reformation starts at 5 p.m. at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 3519 S. County Road 600W, New Palestine. An Oktoberfest celebration with bonfire, German music and food, and beer begins at 6 p.m. The annual “Hold ‘Em For Haiti” card tournament, where people can play poker or euchre for $25 per person, begins at 7. Oct. 31

Trunk or Treat runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Charlottesville United Methodist Church, 230 Carthage Road. Information: “Charlottesville United Methodist Church” on Facebook.

“Halloween Treats” runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. inside the fellowship hall of Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St. Members will offer candy, games, prizes, hot dogs and drinks for families who stop by during their trick-or-treating. Information: 317-462-6348 or greenfieldchristian.org.

Fall Fling runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wilkinson Church of Christ. It features two large obstacle courses, a jousting game, sumo suits, bounce houses, crafts, a cake walk, food and candy. Information: wccin.org, 765-781-2585.

Trunk or Treat runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bradley United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St., Greenfield. Hot dogs will be served along with the treats. Information: bradleyumc.org, 317-462-2662.

Faith Baptist Church in Morristown will have “Truth and Treat” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, 323 S. Washington. It includes activities, food and treats. Information: fbcmorristown.org, 765-763-7657.

Fortville Church of the Nazarene offers Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. In addition to treats in the parking lot, families can go inside for hot dogs and soup. Information: 317-485-6443, fortvillenazarene.org.

Trinity Park United Methodist Church’s “Light the Night” runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Ministry Center gym at the church, 207 W. Park Ave. It includes games, hot dogs, hot chocolate and candy. Information: 317-462-4303 or [email protected].

Calvary Baptist Church offers Trunk or Treat from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, 1450 W. Main St. Information: 317-462-4586.
