The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 10

Foxgardin Kitchen & Ale

Location: 15215 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — hand sink needs to have water reach 100 degrees, to be corrected by Aug. 12; C — prep cooler too warm, corrected; NC — some lights not working, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — floors in bar area and kitchen need to be cleaned in corners, crevices and under equipment, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — need to rinse dishes after washing/before sanitizing, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 15

Express Cave

Location: 1649 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must protect ice cream cones from bare hand contact, corrected; C — milk batter for tenderloins must be discarded within four hours when not held at 41 degrees or lower, corrected; C — handwashing sink cannot be blocked, remove equipment from sink, corrected; NC — need thin-tipped thermometer for thin meats, tenderloins, patties, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — need to have sanitizing test strips on premises for use, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

KFC

Location: 1604 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — excessive gnats on buffet line and under/around customer beverage area, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R — hand soap at hand sink near office and in men’s restroom not working properly, to be corrected by Aug. 16; NC/R — repair/replace tiles and coving on floor by chicken cooler and hand sink, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — clean chicken floor sink to remove mold build-up and debris, odor in this area, plumbing repair/replacement needed, clean floor of chicken cooler to remove product fluids and debris, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Domino’s Pizza

Location: 1202 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — demonstration of knowledge, documentation for certified food manager available on premises, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C — hand sink must be available at food prep line, currently shut off, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — calibrate food thermometers as often as necessary, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — need sanitizing test strips available and used, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Aug. 16

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 1031 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to wash hands properly after handling dirty dishes and before handling clean, corrected; C/R — sanitizing solution chemical must be used for food contacted surfaces, corrected; NC — dishes, glasses need to air dry before stacking for storage, corrected; NC — repair coving along counter in wait staff area, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R — clean/remove black build-up in places/corners of floor/coving, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Penn Station

Location: 1667 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R — gap better under door, but still too big, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC — employee has nail polish on and handling not ready-to-eat food, corrected.
