County tennis players honored by HHC
On Wednesday evening, boys tennis coaches from the Hoosier Heritage Conference gathered to select league honorees for 2017.
A total of six New Palestine Dragons were recognized as All-HHC while one was named honorable mention.
The HHC champion Dragons finished 19-5 on the season and 7-0 in league play en route to a sectional title. New Palestine’s Des Evans was named the 2017 HHC Coach of the Year.

Standouts picked for weekly HHC honors
Hoosier Heritage Conference Players of the Week were announced for football and volleyball. The honors are for the week of Oct. 8.
Football Players of the Week
Offense: Charlie Spegal, Delta
• Spegal ran for 279 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles beat Greenfield-Central 41-14.
Defense: Maxen Hook, New Palestine
• Hook had seven tackles, two pass breakups and an interception in the Dragons’ 56-24 victory over New Castle.
Special teams: Alex Kropp, New Palestine
• Kropp was 8-for-8 on PATs in the Dragons’ victory over New Castle, extending his streak to 32 consecutive PATs made.
Volleyball Players of the Week
Mabrey Shaffmaster, New Castle
• Shaffmaster had 28 kills in the Trojans’ HHC title-clinching victory over Yorktown. She also had 14 kills and two aces in Tuesday’s win over Franklin Central.
Victoria Bulmahn, Mt. Vernon
• Bulmahn had 80 kills, 26 blocks, 71 assists and 50 digs as the Marauders went 5-0 with wins over Shenandoah, Noblesville, New Palestine, FW Luers and Chatard.

Anderson To Perform National Anthem at IMS
INDIANAPOLIS — Nashville recording artist and Hoosier native Clayton Anderson will sing the national anthem on Sunday before the final day of action at the Red Bull Air Race World Championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
