GREENFIELD — A Greenfield subdivision has been targeted by thieves for the second time in recent weeks — but this time, the suspects were caught on camera.
Local police have received calls about six unlocked cars being broken into in Copeland Farms on the city’s northwest side late last week and over the weekend, with the thefts including a handgun left in a resident’s car.
Two suspects were caught by a home security camera peeking into cars around 4 a.m. Friday. Now, Greenfield Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying the individuals.
Camera footage shows two people in hooded sweatshirts looking into the windows of cars parked in one home’s driveway. One appeared to be a male with short, light-colored hair. The other’s face cannot be seen.

In addition to a handgun that was taken from a car on Sheets Court, computer equipment and other electronics were taken from cars throughout the neighborhood, police said.
None of the vehicles were damaged in the break-ins; all vehicles had been left unlocked overnight, police said.
In early September, a rash of vehicle break-ins were reported by Copeland Farms residents, including one incident in which a car was stolen, officials said.
Thieves broke into and stole a car that was parked in the subdivision on Sept. 6.
The county dispatch center got a call from OnStar to report a stolen vehicle was parked at a nearby gas station. The car was recovered and returned to its owner, but the two suspected thieves fled the area, records show.
Various electronics, including a laptop computer, were also stolen from other cars in Copeland Farms at that time, officials said.
