Indiana Gourd Society leads workshop at county library

GREENFIELD –— Indiana Gourd Society member Jim Ballard will lead a gourd art workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Ballard will demonstrate how to work with gourds and provide tips and inspiration for creating gourd artwork during this free seminar. Participants will receive a clean gourd to take home. Parks & Recreation offers clay, ceramics camp during fall break

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Parks and Recreation offers the Autumn Clay & Ceramics Fall Break Camp, from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 16 to 20 at the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 Apple Street. The camp is open to ages 6 through 12 and teens. The cost to register is $40 for city residents and $45 for non-residents. All supplies are included. Register at greenfieldin.org.

Introductory workshop offered for National Novel-Writing Month

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Writers Center, 812 E. 67th St., offers a one-day workshop on NaNoWriMo (National Novel-Writing Month) from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Writers Center. The workshop explains the premise of NaNoWriMo — writing a complete novel in the course of one month — techniques for success, in-class exercises and strategies for overcoming common writing problems. Rockler Woodworking offers October series of workshops

CASTLETON — Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, 8452 Castleton Corner Drive, offers a series of hands-on “Make & Take” project classes through Oct. 22. Participants can learn basic woodworking skills while completing a project in just a few hours. Class sizes are limited and cost between $25 and $45. All materials and tools are provided, and no experience is necessary. Children younger than the age of 18 are welcome to attend but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must sign a waiver. Class projects include a custom knife handle, a wooden footstool, a custom pen and a beanbag toss board.
