Cougars’ Willis set to compete at regional

Greenfield-Central senior singles player Kole Willis won an individual sectional tennis title last week and now will compete for a regional championship this Saturday.

Willis was 15-8 during the regular season and is 3-0 in the state tournament for a combined 18 wins this fall. He won a pair of sectional matches at North Central during individual state tournament play last week to advance into the regional round.

Willis will face Brownsburg’s Petar Petrovic, a freshman, at the Fishers Regional site. Petrovic is 21-5 overall this season and 4-0 in the postseason.

Regional semifinal matches begin at 10 a.m. with the championship match set for 2 p.m. If Willis wins, he will advance to the individual tennis state finals quarterfinal round on Oct. 20 at Park Tudor.

Dragons seeking perfect HHC finish

The top-ranked Class 5A New Palestine football team clinched the outright Hoosier Heritage Conference championship last Friday with their 56-24 victory against New Castle.

This week, the Dragons are seeking a perfect 7-0 finish in HHC play to go with their fifth consecutive outright title, while extending their conference-record winning streak to 34 games.
