The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 17

Village Pantry

Location: 5964 W. Pendleton Pike, McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – lunch meat in opened packages must be date-marked, the date-mark cannot exceed seven days including day opened, to be corrected by July 17; C/R – expired yogurt, corrected; NC – clean ice chute on beverage machine to remove mold-like substance, clean counter of slush machine to remove syrup, to be corrected by July 25; C – chili in dispenser must be held at 135 or higher, corrected.

Bob Evans Farms

Location: 2256 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – shell eggs too warm, corrected; C – everything an employee touches without changing gloves/washing hands needs to be treated as a food contact surface (handles on equipment such as microwaves and cooler door handles), corrected.

Location: 179 S. Main St., Wilkinson

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Eagle 2 Petroleum LLC

Location: 407 Main St., Shirley

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – sandwiches with expired dates, corrected; NC/R – sanitizing strips must be provided and used, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC/R must protect lip contact surfaces of cups, place in holder or keep in plastic sleeve, cup lip surface cannot contact counter, corrected; NC – need to repair wall surrounding mop sink, replace/repair ceiling tiles in storage area, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Dairy Queen

Location: 346 W. Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R – repair/replace light in freezer and rods that have gone out in kitchen, to be corrected by Oct. 1; C – all surfaces touch with gloves on in between foods need to be sanitized every four hours or gloves changed after touching surface/before touching food, corrected; NC/R – repair tiles in places throughout store where it is cracked and broken, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Violations found: C/R – salad prep cooler not holding foods such as cole slaw and sour cream cold enough, potato soup and rice not hot enough, corrected; C – sani buckets are at low concentration, corrected; C – soup bowls, plates need to be clean to sight and touch, corrected; C – hand-washing sink to be used for hand-washing only, corrected; NC/R – spoons need to be dispensed handles up in wait staff area, corrected; NC – refrigerator units need equipment thermometers, to be corrected by Oct. 1.
