Artist Gary Schmitt leads felting workshop

GREENFIELD — Textile artist Gary Schmitt will lead a felting workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Twenty North Gallery, 20 N. Riley Wranglers offer square-dance lessons

CUMBERLAND — The Riley Wranglers Square Dance Club invites new members to start square-dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 N. Riley Festival features peach pie baking contest

GREENFIELD — The Riley Festival celebrates home-cooking with a peach pie baking contest Sept. 30. Pies should be dropped off between 9 and 10 a.m. at the Purdue Extension Office, 802 Apple St. Judging begins at 10:15 a.m. Applications and the complete rules are available online at rileyfestival.com or picked up at the Extension Office. Artist teaches one-stroke painting classes at library

GREENFIELD — Art lovers can learn one-stroke painting Sept. 30 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Artist Marilyn Tentler will teach a technique — popularized by Donna Dewberry on her public television show — to achieve shading and highlighting in a single stroke. In the first session, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., attendees will paint a snowman and an evergreen on canvas. In the second session, from 6 to 8 p.m., fall pumpkins will be painted. Entries wanted for Riley Home Arts and Quilt Show

GREENFIELD — Crafters, bakers, collectors and more are invited to enter compete in the 2017 Riley Festival Home Arts and Quilt Show. Competition categories include baking, food preservation, quilts, sewing, needlecraft, creative arts, Christmas, antiques and collectibles. Entries are due from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place. Linda’s Gourd Patch Gathering to meet

GREENFIELD — Linda’s Gourd Patch group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday behind the Faith Lutheran Church, 200 W. McKenzie Road. The program includes a display of gourds and a presentation by a gourd artist, Karen Zane. All are welcome. Participants are invited to bring a gourd to show and snacks for a pitch-in.
