The New Palestine volleyball team wasted little time on Thursday en route to an impressive 3-0 sweep of Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Pendleton Heights.

The Dragons claimed the match in three sets: 25-12, 25-18, 25-14.

Mia Long recorded 10 kills and 10 digs. Allison Dennemann had 17 kills, while Lydia Jones led the defense with 13 digs. Sydney Robertson had 24 assists.

The Dragons improved to 14-3 on the season and 2-1 in the HHC. They host Mooresville on Monday.

The junior varsity team won 25-12, 25-19 against Pendleton Heights.

Cougars tame Golden Bears

The Greenfield-Central volleyball team picked up its first HHC win with a 3-0 sweep of Shelbyville on Thursday night.

The Cougars won 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 to improve to 8-7 and 1-4 in the HHC.

Seven players recorded at least one kill. Makayla Price led the team with 13 kills. Ava Antic had 10, Haleigh Pribble had five and Mary Voigt had five.

Dragons sweep Tigers

The New Palestine boys tennis team defeated the visiting Triton Central Tigers 5-0 on Thursday.

The Dragons are now 13-4 on the season. Matthew True won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Ben Blachly was a flawless 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Carson Gavin swept his match at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Nick Rusche and Colby Wagoner won at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0. David Hockett and Dane Reid teamed to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

The Dragons visit Mt. Vernon on Tuesday and travel to New Castle on Wednesday.

The New Palestine junior varsity team won 5-0 against Triton Central to improve to 13-1.

Trojans edge past Marauders

The Mt. Vernon boys tennis team lost a close match to HHC rival New Castle 3-2 on Thursday.

The Marauders secured their wins in doubles action. Brayden Browning and Sam Frye won at No. 1 doubles to improve to 11-4 on the year, while Peyton Meadors and Sam McCarty upped their season record to 15-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Mt. Vernon is now 9-4 this season. The junior varsity team swept New Castle 5-0 to improve to 10-0.

Royals lose close match

The Eastern Hancock Royals narrowly lost to Morristown 3-2 on Thursday.

The Royals earned points in two singles matches and lost a hard-fought three-set match at No. 2 doubles.

Duncan Cherry won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while Ian White prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Keegan Bowman and Brady Ellis pushed their opponents losing the first set 3-6, before rallying to take the second 6-4. In the third, Morristown sealed the win 6-2.

Girls golf

Cougars beat Golden Bears

The Greenfield-Central girls golf team closed out their regular season with a 182-217 victory against visiting Shelbyville on Thursday.

Caroline Gibson led the Cougars with a 41 at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield. Senior Lindsey McCord shot a 43 in her final regular-season round to clinch the team scoring title for the year. 

Haley Hoagland added a 44 and Rose Gerard shot a 54 to help the Cougars post their best total score at home in several years.

Royals fall to Bulldogs

The Eastern Hancock girls golf team lost to Centerville 225-194 on Thursday at Royal Hylands.

Lucy Cochard led the Royals with a 52. Daly Pelger followed with a 55, and Jocelyn Duncan added a 57. Isabella Parker chipped in a 61.

Marauders fall to Royals

The Mt. Vernon boys soccer team lost on the road 6-1 to Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday night.

The Marauders’ lone goal was scored by Logan Angelopulos off a penalty kick in the second half. Mt. Vernon dropped to 8-2 on the season and host the Marauder Classic this weekend with games against Fishers and Columbus East.

Girls soccer

Marauders lose first match

The Mt. Vernon girls soccer team dropped its first match of the season on Thursday night, losing to Hamilton Southeastern 6-1 at home.

The Marauders’ lone goal went to Emma Langdon with the assist credited to Alexi Hardie. Mt. Vernon scored first before HSE tied the match and took a 2-1 first-half lead. In the second half, HSE added four more goals to win.

Mt. Vernon is now 11-1 on the season.
