Longtime Fortville resident Samuel C. Mock, 92, passed away August 29, 2017 after a brief illness. Sam was born June 5, 1925 near Oaklandon, Indiana to the late Robert and Flossie Mock.

A retiree of Ford Motor Company, Sam graduated from Fortville High School and shortly after enlisted in the U S Army Air Corps. He served in the 8th Air Force, 452 Bomb Group during WWII. His plane was shot down in April 1945. He was a POW until the end of the war in Europe. Sam was a longtime member of Cyntheanne Christian Church, a 50-year Past Master of Fortville Lodge 207 F&AM, past worthy patron of Fortville Order of the Eastern Star No. 149, active in local veteran’s organizations, former 10th District Indiana Commander of the VFW, and former member and President of the board of Gravel Lawn Cemetery.

Sam was a loving and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Violet, two children, Samuel, Jr. and Sherry (Thomas) Reblitz, five grandchildren, Samuel Mock III, Daniel (Ida) Mock, Sara Heavyrunner, Adria Long, and Kyle (Dana) Reblitz, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lillian Manship, Freda Stoner, and FloraBelle Craig Gross, and two brothers, Robert A. and Erbin.

A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 1 at Cyntheanne Christian Church. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
