Leighton Stanley Allen, 80, of Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Golden LivingCenter — Brandywine. He was born on June 14, 1937 in Faribault, Minnesota as the son of Stanley and Mattie (Bailey) Allen.
Leighton graduated from Greenfield High School in 1955. Leighton married Shirley G. (Gilsdorf) on June 18, 1955 in Greenfield.
He was a Machinist at Best Lock Corporation and several other machine shops for many years. Leighton was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lawrence and First Baptist Church in Greenfield. He was a very generous and caring man and loved reading books. Leighton really cared about people knowing where they would go when they pass away.
Leighton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Allen of Greenfield; sons, Bruce Allen of Noblesville, Dwight (Brenda) Allen of Greenfield and Calvin (Peggy) Allen of Walhalla, SC; siblings, Ella (Dick) Cape of Greenfield, Floyd (Diane) Allen of Greenwood, Shirley Sisson of Greenwood and Beverly (Eric) Romereim of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mattie Allen.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Don Mitchell will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 10701 E. 56th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46235 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
