Charles Larry Adkins, 84, of Wilkinson, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born December 17, 1932 in Hancock County to Charles and Opal (Reedy) Adkins.
Larry was a 1950 graduate of Eden High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Butler University. He was a past master and over 50-year member of the Eden F & AM Lodge No. 477, a member of Eden Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 101, an over 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He raised and showed Columbia sheep. Larry enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts and Butler Basketball. He was actively involved in the Fortville First United Methodist Church having served as Treasurer, Sunday school teacher and the United Methodist Men’s group. Larry retired from Detroit Diesel Allison in 1990 after over 30 years’ service.
He is survived by wife Frances (Vaughn) Adkins, whom he married August 18, 1956 in Fortville; daughters: Susan (David) Bodkin of Wilkinson and Nancy (Jesse Survant) Davis of Greenfield; grandchildren: Joe (Chelsea) Bodkin, Emily (Alex) Wheatley, John Davis, Nick Survant and Jessica Survant; sister-in-law Barbara Vaughn; cousin Edna Mae Martin and special friend Judy Cain. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Max Vaughn.
A celebration of Larry’s life will take place on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at Fortville First United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
