Clarence F. ‘Bud’ Spence, Jr.

GREENFIELD

Clarence F. “Bud” Spence, Jr., 82, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice. He was born on September 11, 1934 in Springfield, IL as the son of Clarence F. Spence and Pauline (Lockhart) Cadagin.

He graduated from Feitshans High School in Springfield, IL and received his Bachelors from Southern Illinois University. Bud served in the Army. He married Phyllis R. (Nuckols) on March 22, 1959 in Auburn, IL.

He worked for many years as an Independent Insurance Agent and Owner. Bud was a member of the Greenfield American Legion and enjoyed watching sports; especially the Cubs and Bears, gardening and was a long-time football coach. He liked keeping up with Politics and was an avid History buff. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Bud is survived by his wife, Phyllis R. Spence of Greenfield; children, Cindy (Tim) Wardlow of Carmel and Chris (Tina) Spence of Rushville; and granddaughter, Molly Wardlow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence F. Spence and Pauline Cadagin; brother, Melvin Spence; and sister, Linda Manes.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Troy Doubman will be officiating.
