Health inspections
The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Violations found: C — some ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous foods in walk-in cooler not date-marked, corrected; NC — walk-in freezer door has ice build-up, to be corrected by Aug. 1.
Wasabi Japanese Steak House
Location: 1505 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C — eggs must be held at 41 degrees or lower, must be returned to refrigeration promptly and only remove eggs needed, corrected; C/R — soiled knives and container are in contact with clean knives, to be corrected by June 2; C — hand-washing sink must not be blocked or have food debris, to be corrected by May 31; C — label spray bottle with common name of chemical, to be corrected by May 31; NC/R — exhaust hood has excessive build-up on drips/grease, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC/R — clean ceiling, walls and floors under equipment and in corners where debris has built up, clean “fuzzies” on ceiling, clean wall behind dish machine of mold-like substance, clean rack near fryer, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC/R — clean doors, handles and interior of refrigeration units, to be corrected by Aug. 30; repair hole in ceiling tile in kitchen, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC/R — exterior screen door needs to be tight-fitting to prevent pests, fruit flies are at dish machine floor drain, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC/R — ice scoop must be stored in a clean and protected manner, to be corrected by May 31; NC — wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, to be corrected by May 31.
