RUSHVILLE — The Greenfield-Central Cougars trekked southeast to Rushville on Monday afternoon and maximized their trip.

The Cougars’ girls golf team posted three sub-50 scores to defeat the host Lions by 53 strokes 201-254. The dual win was the first for Greenfield-Central this season.

Haley Hoagland led the Cougars with a solid score of 46, which was good enough to earn her medalist honors. Caroline Gibson followed with a 48, and Lindsey McCord had a 49.

Phoenix Breese rounded out Greenfield-Central’s scoring with a 58.

The Cougars (227) were coming off a tough loss to host Columbus East (205) and Whiteland (206) in a three-way meet to open the season on Thursday.

This past Saturday, Greenfield-Central shot a 384 during the Greensburg Invitational to place fourth out of 18 teams. McCord led the team during the invite with an 89. Hoagland fired a personal best at 95 through 18 holes.

The Cougars are off until Monday when they travel to Beech Grove for a dual at Sarah Shank at 5 p.m. The team’s originally scheduled dual at home Tuesday against Perry Meridian has been canceled.
