Royals Aquatic Club offering swim opportunities

The Eastern Hancock swim programs are offering a multitude of ways to get involved in swimming through the Eastern Hancock Aquatic Club. Opportunities including swim lessons, swim camp, Mini Royal Swim Club for elementary ages, and competitive swimming through the Eastern Hancock Aquatic Club.

The events will be conducted at the indoor pool located inside Eastern Hancock High School.

Registration for swim lessons and swim camp are Aug. 15 and 16. Registration for the swim club (Mini Royal included) are Aug. 22 and 23.

Nelson wins junior wrestling world title for U.S.

TAMPERE, Finland – Maya Nelson of the United States scored off a low single-leg attack and later drove a double-leg out-of-bounds for four points to secure a 6-0 win over Yuliana Yaneva of Bulgaria and the Junior Wrestling World Championship title.

Nelson’s gold medal at 63 kg on Friday was the first for an American woman at the junior world meet since 2010 when Victoria Anthony won the second of her back-to-back titles.

Former All-Star catcher Daulton dies at 55

PHILADELPHIA — Darren Daulton, an All-Star catcher who was the leader of the Philadelphia Phillies’ NL championship team in 1993, has died. He was 55.

Daulton had battled brain cancer since 2013. He had two tumors removed during brain surgery on July 1, 2013, but nine days later was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
