The Eastern Hancock girls golf team opened the 2017 season on its home course at Royal Hylands on Thursday. However, it was visiting Wapahani Raiders that made themselves at home.

Wapahani won the dual match 239-211 during the nine-hole par 35 match.

Despite the loss, Eastern Hancock’s Lucy Cochard and Daly Pelger both turned in team-leading scores of 54.

Chloe O’Neal was third-best for the Royals with a 65. Isabella Parker added a 66 for Eastern Hancock, while Jocelyn Duncan scored a 67.

Marauders drop opener to Arabians

The Mt. Vernon girls golf team narrowly lost to rival Pendleton Heights at Fall Creek on Tuesday 213-217.

The Marauders were led by Morgan Hear with a 47. Ava Hampton followed by shooting a 52. Lily Hampton and Savannah McKemie both turned in 59s. Hailee Fulton added a 71.

The Marauders’ match against Shelbyville on Wednesday was postponed due to rain.
