FORTVILLE
Verna Lu (Guthrie) Durr, 79, of Fortville, passed away July 28, 2017, at Community North Hospital. She was born on May 16, 1938 in Bedford, IN as the daughter of Vernon and Carolyn Ruth (Meglemre) Guthrie.
She worked for the VA Hospital as a switch board operator, and for the DFAS as a computer operator for many years before retiring in 2000. Verna was a member of the Fortville First United Methodist Church, where she participated in the hand bell choir and United Methodist Women. She was also a previous finance secretary for the church and helped in the church office. Verna loved playing the piano, watching the Colts and Pacers, and enjoyed sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her children, Jim Durr and Elaine (Pat) Stiffler, both of Fortville, IN, Bill (Lisa) Durr of Indianapolis, IN, and Dave Durr of Cumberland, IN; brothers, Lee (Loreen) Guthrie of McCordsville, IN, and Van (Joanne) Guthrie of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Amanda, Leah, Eric, Nick, Beth, and Maranda; and four great-grandchildren, Micah, Malachi, Jayden, and Aubri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Carolyn Guthrie; father of her children, Floyd Durr, and great-grandchild, Wyatt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040, and Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Fortville First United Methodist Church, 125 E Staat St, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will take place at the church at 11:00 a.m. following Tuesday’s viewing. Rev. Joe Smith will be officiating.
