GREENFIELD — Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to participate in the fifth annual Sister Cities of Greenfield 5K walk/run at 9 a.m. Aug. 19 along the Pennsy Trail.
The run/walk begins at Sister Cities Park at 111 S. Pennsylvania St. and follows the Pennsy Trail on a flat route. This event helps Sister Cities of Greenfield to be able to provide travel and hosting experiences for Greenfield students, teachers and parents with Greenfield’s sister city, Kakuda, Japan.
For 27 years, Sister Cities of Greenfield has been sending delegations of students and teachers to Kakuda thanks to generous support from the city, the Keihin Corporation and activities like the 5K walk/run, according to a news release. The funding has enabled students to be able to travel to Kakuda for much less than the actual cost of airfare and lodging. Likewise, Sister Cities of Greenfield has hosted dozens of Japanese student delegations.
