CEDARBURG

Ruth L. Schwan of Cedarburg was led by God’s hand to heaven on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Kathy’s Hospice in West Bend.

She was a model of grace and humble gratitude for God’s gifts. She was married to her husband Paul, a Lutheran Pastor, for 67 years before he went to his heavenly home.

They were blessed with four sons and their families: Paul and Christy of Cedarburg, children Amy and Joshua; Tim and Joann of Appleton, children Cassie, Jason, Alicia and Jesse; David and Mary Beth of Rapid City, South Dakota, children Annette and Jennifer; and Andrew and Joan of Palmer Nebraska, children Rachel, Luke and Jacob. Ruth’s 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren made her laugh and colored pictures for her.

Her funeral will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, New Palestine, Indiana on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 am with Visitation at the church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial to follow at the church cemetery next to her husband, Paul.

Memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran School 6513 W 300 S, New Palestine, Indiana 46163.

Ruth lived her life with joy and thanksgiving because she knew that each day was a gift from God. Each and every day she would think and pray about God’s many blessings in her life. When talking with her family she would always tell them how blessed she was through her four sons and their families. She would tell them that she never had a daughter, but that God blessed her with wonderful daughter-in-laws.

She tenderly remembered her many years as the wife of a Pastor, and felt so blessed through the members of the congregations that they served. Those who were blessed to be around her were impacted by her unwavering sense of peace and contentment centered in her strong faith and relationship with her Lord Jesus. Ruth’s grandchildren commented often that Grandma was the most content, thankful and gracious person that they knew.

Ruth had a humble way of inspiring others to live faithfully and thankfully.
