Cougars girls hoops camp to start next week

The Greenfield-Central girls basketball camp begins Monday and runs through Wednesday.

Players in first through sixth grades are encouraged to sign-up for the clinic focused on learning the fundamentals and the fun of basketball. The camp will be an introduction into the fall basketball league.

The camp will be conducted inside the Cougar Fieldhouse at Greenfield-Central High School. For first through third graders, a session will be conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day. For fourth through sixth graders, their session will take place from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Royals youth football camp begins Monday

The Eastern Hancock Royals youth and middle school football camps are set to start Monday and run through Wednesday.

The camp will be conducted at the Eastern Hancock High School practice fields (10320 E. County Road 250 N, Charlottesville).

The camp is open to participants in kindergarten through eighth grade. For those campers in kindergarten through the fourth grade, practice sessions will be conducted from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. For fifth through eighth graders, practices will run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $45 per person and will focus on the basic fundamentals and proper techniques of football.

Helping Hands nonprofit planning golf event

Helping Hands for Freedom, a nonprofit aiding families of the fallen, wounded and deployed, has several spots left in its charity golf outing.

The event will be July 16 at Bear Chase Golf Club (2660 N. Riley Hwy.) in Shelbyville. The outing is a four-person scramble at $300 per team or $75 per golfer.

Lunch, dinner and golf will be provided. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., and golf starts at noon.

Cougar cross-country camp begins soon

The 2017 Greenfield-Central Junior High cross-country camp begins Monday and runs through Thursday.

Each session will be conducted from 8 to 10:30 a.m. daily at Brandywine Park.

The camp will include instructions on proper warmup, stretching, running technique, racing strategies, information on nutrition, goal setting, mental preparation and motivation.

The cost of the camp is $50 per runner. The fee includes a camp T-shirt, participation plaque, refreshments and prizes.

All participants must have a current physical on file with the school corporation to participate.

Ike Anigbogu Signs with Pacers

The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday they have signed Ike Anigbogu, the 47th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Anigbogu, a 6-10, 250-pound center, played one season at UCLA and averaged 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
