Restaurant Inspections – July 8

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 25

The Sweet Shop

Location: 1309 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC — have correct sanitizing solution test strips on premises and used, to be corrected by June 25; C — sanitizing solution too strong, corrected.

May 30

Carol’s Cornerstone Cafe

Location: 301 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — must date-mark in-house made pasta and bean salads when held longer than 24 hours, corrected; C — sandwich cooler running at 60 degrees, must maintain 41 degrees or lower, corrected; C — dish machine not sanitizing, corrected; C/R — dirty knives stored with clean knives on magnetic strip, corrected; clean door handles of all refrigeration units, utensils if they are not under refrigeration, clean every four hours, to be corrected by June 4; NC — must not wear apron that is previously contaminated, corrected; NC — need sanitizing test strips available and used, to be corrected by June 15; NC — need to protect ice scoop from contamination, corrected; NC/R — some lights have rods that are not working, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC/R — clean racks storing clean equipment, clean hood and grates, to be corrected by Aug. 30; C — must wash hands after handling raw meat and before handling anything else, this includes lids to food storage, refrigeration door handles, etc., corrected.

Bamboo Garden Buffet

Location: 2160 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C — need to have employee health policy available and reviewed with staff, corrected; C — hot units in customer service are not maintaining food temperature, adjusted/monitor; C — clean ice machine interior to remove mold-like substance, to be corrected by June 10; C — working containers/spray bottles of chemicals must be labeled with common name, corrected; NC/R — food thermometer needs to be available to ensure food temperatures on premises, to be corrected by June 15; NC/R — need sanitizer test strips available and used, to be corrected by June 15; NC/R — back door has gap, need to repair/replace to prevent pests, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC — clean floor of walk-in cooler to remove food debris and residue, to be corrected by Aug. 30.
