The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 19

Speedway

Location: 335 Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – hand-washing sink is for hand washing only, remove food debris, corrected; NC – threads on beverage containers cannot be submerged in water/ice, must be stored/displayed to prevent entry of water, to be corrected by May 19; NC – food thermometers must be accurate to plus or minus 2 degrees, calibrate as needed, corrected.

May 22

Los Maguelles Mexican Restaurant

Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – need a thin tipped thermometer for thin meats, shrimp, chicken, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC – replace burned out lights in kitchen and above prep cooler, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC/R – continue to repair flooring so it is smooth, no holes or low places, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Fortville Broadway Diner

Location: 426 E. Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – must have certified food handler on premises, certificate expired, to be corrected by July 1; C – need employee health policy available and reviewed with all staff throughout year, sample given, corrected; C – raw meat must be stored below produce in cooler, corrected; C – sanitizing solution in three-compartment sink is too low, corrected; NC – improper thawing of raw chicken, corrected; NC – thermometers in some refrigeration units broken and need to be replaced, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC/R – need thin-tipped thermometer for thin meats, tenders, etc., to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC – wiping cloths must be stored in sanitized solution between uses, corrected; NC/R – clean under equipment, shelves under counters and grills, utensil storage unit by sandwich prep cooler, door handles of all equipment, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Hancock County Food Pantry

Location: 741½ S. State Road 9, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Hawk’s Tail

Location: 1453 Morristown Pike, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – sanitizer is too strong in sanitizer bucket at the bar, corrected; C/R – dish machine is not dispensing sanitizer, corrected.
