Paul W. Solomon

Paul W. Solomon, 83, passed away Monday afternoon June 19, 2017, at the Ellison House in Greenfield. A son of the late Lee and Nola M. (Cole) Solomon, Paul was born in Barr Township, Macoupin County, Ill., on August 18, 1933.

He graduated from Northwestern Community High School in Palmyra, Illinois in 1951. Following graduation, Paul enlisted into the Air Force where served his country in Korea and Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant after 22 years of service and received his honorable discharge on July 1, 1974. Paul has made his home in Rush County since 1974 and for the next 20 years was employed at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home in Knightstown where he worked in the Power House as a boiler operator. Paul was a member of the V.F.W. in Knightstown and in his leisure, enjoyed gardening and working on small engines.

Survivors include three children, Mark D. (Martie) Solomon of San Diego, Calif., Karen L. Stevens of Columbia, SC, and Paula Shawn (Ken) Lahey of Fishers; six stepchildren, Chris (Susie) Doty of Cambridge City, Edia (Bob) Gray of Connersville, Gary Wages of Cincinnati, OH, Patricia (Rob) Couch of Greenwood, Pamela (Brian) Johnson of Muncie and Carla (Bruce) Farlow of New Castle; several grand and great-grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Toni (Robinson) Solomon; second wife, Phyllis (Richardson) Solomon; son, David A. Solomon; two brothers, Cyril P. and Vernon L. Solomon.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday June 27, at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Rev. Ron Mills will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by the Air Force Honor Guard and the American Legion will follow at the Zion Cemetery in Raleigh, Rush County, Ind. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday June 26, at the funeral home.
