Michael Allen Moncrief

Michael Allen Moncrief

Michael Allen Moncrief, 63 of Greenfield, passed away at home during the early morning hours of Monday, June 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family as they sang his favorite song, “There’s Something About That Name.”

Michael was born Feb. 18, 1954, to Robert & Alice Moncrief and was raised in Greenfield. He graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 1972. Mike was an avid track runner in high school and still holds county records as a member of the mile and 880 relay teams.

He was a 100% service-connected Disabled American Veteran, having served in the US Navy from 1972 to 1980. After being medically retired, Mike returned to Greenfield and continued his education, receiving his degree in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance. He retired from ConAgra Foods in 2016.

Mike married Pamela (Reed) Moncrief, his high school sweetheart in 1974. Together they raised their family in Greenfield. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. A very favorite pastime was riding his Can-Am Spyder. He was a man of deep faith and was a member of Northside Christian Church. Mike will be remembered by his family and friends for his selfless character, his testimony of strength and faith, and his determination to make every day count. No matter the odds, he never quit. He was always quick to provide support and encouragement with his loving words of affirmation, “Whatever it takes!”

Michael is survived by his wife, Pam; two children, Shawna Thayer and Jeffrey (Tiffany) Moncrief; his six grandchildren (whom he adored more than life) PVT Timothy McNabb; Hailey McNabb; Zoey McNabb; PFC Tommy Brock; Jonathan Moncrief; and Jackson Reed Moncrief; sisters, Debbi Barnhart and Dee John and aunt, Carolyn Keck, all of Greenfield. He was extremely proud and honored to have two grandsons currently serving in the Army National Guard.

The family would like to honor Mike and celebrate his life on Saturday, June 24, 2017, with a visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1304 Greenfield Dr. Greenfield, IN 46140, prior to the service at 2 p.m. at the church. Officiating the service will be Del Hamon and Scott Saltsman. Burial will take place August 9, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in memory of Michael to Northside Christian Church.
