Jewel Nadine (Leimgruber) Summers, 86, formerly of Hillsboro, Ind. and had been residing Greenfield, passed away in the Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield, IN on Saturday, June 17, 2017, surrounded by her children.

Nadine, as she was known in the community, was born in Houston, Tx., on January 17, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Arnold Leimgruber and Hattie ( Groda) Leimgruber Blair.

She graduated from Davis High School. Nadine married Robert “Bob” Summers on August 11, 1951. Bob preceded her in death on December 21, 2013.

While living in Hillsboro, Nadine worked at the Hopkins Syndicate for Dr. George Crane. She later worked with Crowder’s Flower Shop. She and her husband, Bob, operated Summers Shelter Insurance Company along with Hattie’s Café in Hillsboro. She later worked in the fabric and craft department of Walmart. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church along with the WWU Sunday School Class. Nadine was a present member of the Trinity Park United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member and past matron of the Fern Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a 30 year member of the Girl Scouts, serving as leader and also as a cookie chairman for several years.

Nadine leaves behind four daughters, Sharon Summers of Greenfield, Nancy Funkhouser of Elizabethtown, Ky., Jeannine Summers of Mainville, Ohio and Jody (Rodney) Christman, Ansonia, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Joshua Funkhouser, Kim (Charles) Casey, Christie (Paul) Simon, Justin (Eva) Brewer, Jamie (Kerly) Brewer, Robert, Megan and Allen Christman; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Makayla, Katelyn Funkhouser; Anthony, Julianne, Jenna Casey and Zoe Brewer; four great-stepgrandchildren, Kennedy, Mallory, Wesley and Molly Simon.

Nadine loved her family, reading, watching westerns, sewing and making crafts. Nadine was so proud that she has four daughters and a family that knows and loves the Lord, like she did. She taught them to always remember their faith. As a resident of Springhurst she was well loved and very spoiled.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday June 21st, at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with Pastor Sharon Summers and Nadine’s grandson, Joshua Funkhouser officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.

A celebration of Nadine’s life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd, at the Springhurst Health Campus, 628 N. Meridian St., Greenfield.
