GREENFIELD — Greenfield officials this week approved a nearly $88,000 contract with engineering firm Clark Dietz of Indianapolis to update flood maps in the downtown area.

The city hopes to petition the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reduce the flood plain in the area, which would eliminate the need for some downtown homeowners to carry flood insurance for their homes.

A few years ago, Greenfield relocated the Pott’s Ditch tunnel to decrease flooding downtown.

Clark Dietz will update flood mapping and petition FEMA for the change.
