MCCORDSVILLE — The county SWAT team was called to a home in a McCordsville neighborhood Friday morning after a man threatened his relative with a gun, according to investigators.

Police were sent to a home in the 9900 block of Briarway Lane in McCordsville around 8:40 a.m. after a woman inside called 911 to say her son had thrown a lamp at her and threatened her with a firearm. She told dispatchers there were more guns inside the home, officials said.

As a precaution, members of the Hancock County Joint Tactical SWAT team were sent to the house, which sits inside a subdivision near the intersection of county roads 600W and 900N (East 96th Street). Police cars could be seen lining County Road 600W Friday as officers investigated.

Police contacted the subject and tried to calm the situation. The man eventually surrendered around 10:30 a.m., officials said.

Investigators planned to speak at length with the man and his family Friday to determine the best way to proceed. They had not determined if criminal charges would be filed with the prosecutor’s office but hoped to get the man some help, officials said.
