The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 10

The Mug

Location: 117 Apple St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — provide thin tip thermometer for tenderloins, hamburgers, etc., to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC — provide thermometers in all refrigeration units, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Express Cafe

Location: 1649 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

McDonald’s

Location: 1490 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — no employee health policy, sample given, must be reviewed with all staff periodically, corrected; C/R — no date marking on package of opened Canadian bacon and on prepared yogurt parfaits, corrected; NC — container holding ice at drive-through had syrup residue on lip, remove previously used spoons at latte machine to maintain cleanliness, corrected; NC — need food equipment thermometers in all refrigeration units, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

May 11

Mozzi’s All-Star Pizza

Location: 2221 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — spray bottles must be labeled with common names of chemicals, to be corrected by May 11; NC — be mindful of when to use gloves and when to wash hands before wearing gloves for food prep/handling, corrected; NC — remove “fuzzies,” clean ceiling near pizza prep and dish machine, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Pizza King

Location: 237 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — house-made salad dressing, meat sauce and pasta dates are expired, corrected/discarded; C — need to wash hands before putting on gloves, changing tasks, handling ready-to-eat foods, corrected; NC — wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, corrected; NC — sanitizing solution test strips need to be used, corrected.

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — packages of frozen foods not frozen and too warm, packages bloated, corrected/discarded; C/R — expired sausage links, corrected/discarded; NC/R — repair gap at dock door to prevent pests’ entry, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Lincoln Square Pancake House

Location: 901 E. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — improper cooling method observed, corrected; C — employee seen touching handle of fryer with contaminated gloves then changing gloves without wiping down handle, corrected; NC — food contact equipment (glasses, pans) need to air dry before stacking, to be corrected by Aug. 1.
