Chris A. Gartrell, 56, of Greenfield, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017. He was born on January 8, 1961, in Indianapolis, as the son of Hugh R. and Betty Lou (Fries) Gartrell.
He graduated from Arsenal Tech in 1979. Chris married Nancy K. (Plummer) on July 12, 1986, in Indianapolis.
He worked for Elanco in the global shipping department as a senior associate for 26 years and also worked for American States Insurance for 13 years. He was a member of Park Chapel Christian Church, the NRA and Compassion International. Chris enjoyed camping, fishing, music, cooking, and bird watching.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Gartrell of Greenfield; daughters, Caitlin Marie Gartrell and Leslie Nicole Gartrell both of Greenfield; brothers, Lynn (Sandy) Gartrell of Indianapolis, Gary (Shan) Gartrell of Indianapolis and Kevin (Kathy) Gartrell of Atlanta, Ga.; father, Hugh (Sharon) Gartrell of Greenwood; and mother-in-law, Mary Plummer of Greenfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Gartrell; and brother, Darryl Gartrell.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, at the mortuary with viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Danny Curry will be officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Greenfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
