Meals, music coming to McCordsville

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church has several community events coming up.

Gospel quartet returns to Wilkinson church

SHIRLEY — Common Bond Quartet will return to Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church for a musical presentation at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The traditional Southern Gospel quartet from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, presents a mix of songs. Some are familiar to those who follow Southern Gospel music, and others have been written by or for the group.

The quartet has been named among the Top 10 “Favorite New Traditional Quartets” by Singing News for three years in a row.

An offering will be collected for the musicians.

Garage sale to benefit Love INC Ministries

HANCOCK COUNTY — The Love INC of Greater Hancock County garage sale is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. 2 p.m. May 20, at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds Pavilion.

Proceeds benefit Love INC ministries.

New Palestine church schedules hymn sing

Free community dinner series marks 10 years

CUMBERLAND — St. John United Church of Christ will serve a free community dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 11910 E. Prospect St., Indianapolis.

This marks 10 years of free Third Thursday meals at the church.

Restaurant fundraiser to benefit missions

NEW PALESTINE — The United Methodist Women of New Palestine United Methodist Church plan a fundraising event set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the New Palestine McDonald’s, 5122 W. U.S. 52.

A portion of the sales from those hours will go toward the group’s mission projects. Those include contributions to Hancock County Food Pantry, the Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home, Fletcher Place Community Center in Indianapolis and Doe Creek Middle School’s food project to ensure no student goes hungry.

Bradley breakfast to benefit soup kitchen

GREENFIELD — Bradley United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon May 20 at Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, 202 E. Main St.

Donations will be accepted for the soup kitchen.

Greenfield Marine to share at ‘Fight Club’

GREENFIELD — All men are welcome to attend the Men’s Fight Club event featuring Josh Bleill on Friday at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road.

Bleill, a U.S. Marine from Greenfield who lost both legs in Iraq in 2006, tells his inspiring story of courage and perseverance.

Cost is $10 and includes burgers, brats, and dogs, plus an epic battle to end the evening. Check-in and food serving begin at 6 p.m., followed by Bleill sharing at 7 and the “epic battle” from 9 to 10. To register, go to parkchapel.org/events.

Annual fish fry raises funds for missions

GREENFIELD — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church will serve its annual fish fry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 20 at the church, 3447 S. State Road 9.

The menu will include fish, French fries, hush puppies, baked beans, slaw, desserts and beverages. Hot dogs and carry-out will also be available. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds used for missions.

Guest singer coming to Mt. Lebanon service

GREENFIELD — Lynn Cherry will sing in the service at 10:30 a.m. May 21 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9.

Cherry grew up singing with her family from church to church in South Carolina and surrounding states. She has a doctorate in education from South Carolina State University and taught public school for 10 years and college for two years.

She entertains seniors with various genres of music at nursing homes throughout the area.
