The Eastern Hancock Royals boys track team breezed to victory Thursday night during a home tri meet.

The Royals won 10 events en route to 92 team points. Indiana School for the Deaf was second with 33 points and Indiana Math & Science Academy West was third with 26 points.

Reece Burkhart won a pair of events for the Royals, taking first in the shot put at 48 feet, 5 inches and the discus at 120-10.

The Royals’ 4×400 and 4×100 relay teams won in 3:55.34 and 47.11, respectively. Skyler Schrope doubled up in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. Schrope ran the 1,600 in 4:55.55. He won the 3,200 in 10:46.59.

The 400 went to Eastern Hancock’s Alvaro Cosmen Valero. Devyn Brinson won the 200 in 23.56.

Runner-up honors went to Corbin Jennings (1,600 in 5:16.67), Will Huffman (3,200 in 10:57.98), Jayson Bowers (110 hurdles in 17.94), Kyle Moore (long jump in 17-00.25), Luke Splater (high jump in 5-02.00) and Jared Boaz (shot put in 38-09.50 and discus in 118-06.00)

Baseball

Royals rally to win

The Eastern Hancock baseball team improved to 11-8 on the season with a 4-3 win against Hagerstown on Thursday.

The Royals broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a clutch run. Eastern Hancock outhit Hagerstown 9-5.

A.J. Muegge led the Royals by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Clayton White and Devin Denny both had doubles. Andrew Knoblock was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Levi Majority was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

White was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Knoblock earned the win with a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out four.

Softball

Mt. Vernon falls to Royals

The Mt. Vernon softball team grabbed a 3-0 lead but the host Hamilton Southeastern Royals charged back to win 6-3.

The Marauders opened the second inning with a run and added two more in the third. The Royals tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third and grabbed the advantage with a two-run fourth.

The Royals outhit the Marauders 11-5.

Makenzie Gee was 1-for-2 for the Marauders with a two-run home run in the top of the third. Mariah Smotherman drove in the team’s other run in the second.

Tennis

Cougars win 3-2

The Greenfield-Central girls tennis team beat Blue River Valley on Thursday night 3-2.

Lindsey McCord won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-4. Avery Spencer won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Kaleigh Stephenson and Haidyn Goodwin won 7-5, 6-2.

The Cougars are now 4-10 on the season.

Dragons sweep HHC foe

The New Palestine Dragons swept to a 5-0 victory against Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville on Thursday.

Amelia Fleetwood won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Lexi Miller controlled her match at No. 2 singlest to win 6-2, 6-1. Ivey Simmons completed the trifecta at singles with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Josee King and Katie Settergren won at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-2. Sheridan Schrowe and Lauren Didelot teamed up at No. 2 doubles to win 6-3, 6-2.

The Dragons are now 10-6 on the season.
